皆さんが英語を話す時、「Find」をどのような意味で用いていますか？「見つける」が最も多いかと思います。もちろん間違いではありませんが、ネイティブの日常会話では「見つける」対象が人や物だけに限らず、人の「気持ち」や「動作」に対しても使われているのはご存知ですか？
1) I find it/that (interesting)
→「〜を（興味深い）と思う」
これまでの経験に基づいて「〜と思う」や「〜と感じる」と表現する場合は、“Think”ではなく“Find”を使って表現することがあります。例えば、「アメリカ人はみんな時間にルーズだよね」と言った友達に対して、「本当に？それは興味深いね。私のアメリカ人の友達はみんな時間を守るからさ。」は「Really? I find that interesting because all of my American friends are punctual.」となります。ここでは相手の発言を否定しているのではなく、自分の経験をもとに考えを伝えているニュアンスになります。
- 使い方：「I find it/that」＋「形容詞」
- 「I find it/that」＋「hard to」の組み合わせも会話でよく使われる。
・「I find it/that hard to believe（それはちょっと信じ難い）」
・「I find it hard to understand（〜の理解に苦しむ）」
・「I find it hard to get along with（〜さんはちょっと苦手）」
・I find it boring to work in front of a laptop all day.（パソコンの前で一日中仕事するのは退屈だよ〜。）
・All of my friends found him very easygoing.（私の友達全員が、彼はお気楽な人だと感じました。）
・You think that you are shy? I find that hard to believe.（自分のことを恥ずかしがり屋やと思ってるんかいな？それはないやろ〜。）

2) I find myself _____
→「気がつくと〜している」
「知らないうちに〜をしている」や「思わず〜をしてしまう」など、自分自身が何かを無意識にやっていることを表す（見つける）場合に使われる表現です。例えば、「ストレスを抱えると、知らぬ間にジャンクフードをたくさん食べています。」は「I find myself eating a lot of junk food when I’m stressed out.」になります。
- 使い方：「Find oneself」＋「動詞ing」 / 「Find oneself in」＋「形容詞」＋「名詞」
・Sometimes, I find myself worrying about my future.（ふとした時、自分の将来を心配しています。）
・I found myself in serious debt.（気がつくと深刻な借金を抱えていました。）
・I find myself Facebooking during work.（仕事中もついフェースブックをやってまうねん。）

「Find」「Think」「Would say」は基本全て、「〜と思う」を意味し、大きな違いはありません。「Think」がもっともカジュアルで頻度よく使われ、「Find」はもうちょっとかしこまった響きがあるでしょう。「Would say」は二つの中間くらいでしょうか。しかし、大差はないのでバリエーションとして会話に取り入れてみてください。

Thanks for your question. You are exactly correct! “I found/find it difficult to study English” is the more natural way to say it. In English it is not natural to say “I feel difficult _____.” I hope this helped 🙂

Ex , I finally found it fun to study English because I didn’t know what to do when I started studying English, however, these days I went through it.
As you say, ‘ find ‘ means after something to experience.
And ‘ Feel ‘ , ‘ Think’ , ‘Suppose ‘ , ‘ Guess ‘
Probably all of them mean’ 思う’ .

自分も似たようなフレーズを聞いて意味が分からなかったので、調べたらこのコメントにたどり着きました。周りのネイティブスピーカーに聞いてみたところ、どうやら「find me target」は「find target for me」と同じ意味らしいです。
文脈からすると、「敵から攻撃された」→「(仕返しするから?)ターゲットを教えて」という感じのようです。

In this song, there is a phrase “Oh I think I found myself cheerleader. She is always right there when I need her.”
In this context, I understand that SHE IS a cheerleader for him. It is not HE that found himself cheerleader, but he found her as his cheerleader.
Is the original phrase in the song grammatically correct? Do native speakers use like this?
