【Maria】So right now a hot topic is Israel and Palestine because there’s been a lot of tensions happening with the United States offering money for Israel to, you know, support their country. So there’s been left and right with that situation. People are either pro-Israel or pro-Palestine. But regardless, we’re spending a lot of money on this and we have so many issues in the United States right here at home.

【Maria】So that’s been kind of a situation that’s been all over the news, all over the media. I think that’s worldwide. But because the United States is fronting the bill on a lot of those issues, it’s causing some debates happening here.

【Maria】Another thing is gun violence. So I have never heard of any kind of gun violence, like I do in America, where my friends are scared to send their kids to school because they don’t know if they’re going to come home alive or not. I live in the state of Georgia. I think it happens a little bit more often here where there’s gun threats and bomb threats at school. But yeah people are easily able to have a gun as a kid.

【Maria】You know, you can just walk into a school. A lot of places aren’t highly guarded. They can’t afford it—especially public school systems—to have security guards everywhere. And people are all about their gun rights in America. Having that right to, you know, to bear—to have their own gun. So it’s a lot of issues happening with gun violence all the time. I think that’s been going on for some time.

【Maria】We have healthcare issues that a lot of people are saying, you know, “We need healthcare. We need to be able to be taken care of when we get sick.” Because a lot of issues—is that we have healthcare kick in once we get severely, you know—but they don’t really have preventative measures covered. Insurance is a big problem here. We have to go through all kinds of hoops to get things paid for. And we have huge deductibles usually. So that’s a problem.

【Maria】Another thing is domestic violence. There’s a lot of times that, you know, police are having to commit brutal types of domestic violence against people in unnecessary ways. And now we have smartphones so it’s being, you know, recorded and it’s all over social media. So lots of different things like that that are happening.
