【Kelly】Kara, what is an inexpensive thing that you have purchased that improved your life, and how?

【Kara】This is really nerdy, but I redid my bedroom this year. This was one of my big undertakings and I now have a beautiful desk. And I have so many little acrylic stands mostly of, like anime and manga characters. They’re not expensive usually. I can’t tell you how much my mental health depends on these things. Like, I take so much care arranging them. When I get a new one, it’s, like a huge thing for me. They just bring me joy.

【Kara】And I—I don’t realize, like how much time I actually spend at my desk. And I…I don’t know. They constantly just make me happy. And I think it’s—I think it’s important no matter what it is to have something small that you collect. I think that’s a really important thing and…I don’t know. I’ve actually met a lot of people who also collect similar stuff and made friendships this way.

【Kara】So I think it’s important to have, like a little knickknack or a little trinket that kind of is, like your special thing. I know one of my good friends always collects the weirdest gachapons that she can possibly find, which is never-ending and I love this. Yeah and I just—I…I like when people take something like that seriously and kind of have a dedication like that. I—I think that’s an important skill. What about you? What’s an inexpensive thing that kind of makes your life better?

【Kelly】It’s so funny that you say that because that’s what I was going to answer too.

【Kara】Really?

【Kelly】Because I—I have, like this little setup. There’s, like this little shelf that my monitor—I’m pointing here because this is where it is. My monitor goes over here and my computer is here, which is not great. It should be, like here so I don’t keep twisting my neck.

【Kelly】But I have so many little things that are just collected here. Because when I’m sitting here looking like this and very tired or bored or just… “ugh, I can’t wait for the day to be over,” I look down and I see my little tanuki and it’s very cute. Or I—I look down and see my little cat. And it’s very cute! And it’s just a little thing and they’re—I don’t know—like 2 or 3 dollars a piece.

【Kara】Yeah.

【Kelly】And I just have this little collection that changes. I have my little…my little WALL-E that I love because it’s my favorite Disney movie. Well, this is EVE, you know.

【Kara】My BFF’s sitting with me.

【Kelly】See? I have—where’s my other one? I have Steve from Stranger Things when he worked at the ice cream shop.

【Kara】I have Eleven on my bookshelf!

【Kelly】See? It just…sort of just makes you a little bit happy. So I have definitely tricked out my desk to be cute.
