ロングビーチにある人気のワッフル屋さん「Waffle Love」に行ってきました！今回は、フレンドリーな店員さんとやり取りをちょっとご紹介します。

ワッフル屋さんでワッフルを注文する

【店員】Thinking about a waffle, big boss?
（ワッフルはいかがですか？）

【Jun】Hey man, this is actually my first time here. So, what is this? We got the sweet and the savory.
（このお店に来るのは初めてなんです。甘いワッフルと塩味のワッフルがあるんですね？）

【店員】Yes, sir. You got sweet and you got savory.
（その通りです。甘いのと塩味、二種類のワッフルをご用意しています）

【Jun】Okay. I only had sweet waffles before, so you’re gonna have to help me out with the savory.
（分かりました。甘いワッフルしか食べたことがないので、塩味のきいたワッフルがどのようなものか教えてもらえますか？）

【店員】Have you ever had chicken and waffles before?
（フライドチキンとワッフルを組み合わせたチキン&ワッフル[ワッフルチキン]を食べたことはありますか？）

【Jun】I’ve had chicken and waffles.
（以前食べたことはあります）

【店員】That’s like sweet and savory put together. The chicken is savory. The waffle is sweet.
（甘さと塩味が混じり合ったメニューです。チキンの塩味とワッフルの甘さですね）

【Jun】Like Roscoe’s, right?
（ロスコーズ[チェーン店]みたいな感じですよね？）

【店員】That’s disrespectful. Ours is much better than Roscoe’s. Ours is liege waffle. Have you ever had a liege waffle?
（それは失礼ですよ。当店が提供するチキン＆ワッフルの方が断然美味しいです。当店のワッフルはリエージュワッフルです。リエージュワッフルを食べたことはありますか？）

【Jun】No, what is that?
（いいえ、それは何ですか？）

【店員】That’s when you make a waffle from dough and yeast, and rise it like bread.
（ワッフルを生地とイーストから作るときは、パンと同じように発酵させるんです）

【Jun】Ok.
（なるほど）

【店員】But we cook it on a waffle iron. It’s the traditional style for, like a Belgian style waffle. So it’s not like mixing it inside of a bowl, pouring. No.
（私たちはワッフルアイロンを使って調理します。ワッフルの本場ベルギーと同じ方法で焼き上げます。つまり、単にボウルに材料を入れてかき混ぜて作るのではありません）

【Jun】You guys do it right.
（伝統的な作り方をしているんですね）

【店員】We do it right. The best way, the only way.
（その通りです。工程にもこだわっています）

【Jun】So with the savory stuff, what do you recommend?
（塩味のきいたワッフルではどれがオススメですか？）

【店員】The savory? Chicken and waffles is our number one. Our Grilled Cheese & Bisque was rated number two in the nation by Time Magazine.
（塩味のきいたワッフルですか？チキン＆ワッフルが1番人気です。当店のグリルチーズ＆ビスクはタイムズ誌で全国2位に輝いたこともあります）

【Jun】In the nation?
（全国ですか？）

【店員】Yes, in the nation. I don’t know which nation. (laugh)
（そうです、全国です。どの国かは分かりませんが[笑]）

【Jun】(laugh)
（笑）

【店員】But…in the nation. Yes. And our leading contender for the third spot is in between the Sammy and Nashville Hot.
（とにかく全国です。そして3番目の有力候補はサミーサンド[朝食サンド]とナッシュビルホットです）

【Jun】Nashville hot. I’m gonna stick with the classic. I’ll go with the chicken and waffles.
（ナッシュビルホットですね。それじゃあ、今回は定番を試してみようと思います。では、チキン＆ワッフルをください）

【店員】Yes, sir. Yes, sir.
（かしこまりました）

【Jun】And you know what? I’ll go one sweet, too. What do you recommend for that?
（それと、甘いワッフルも一ついただきます。どれがオススメですか？）

【店員】Our number one on the sweet side is Nutella Strawberry.
（甘いワッフルで一番人気なのはヌテラストロベリーです）

【Jun】Nutella.
（ヌテラですね）

【店員】But I’m not the biggest Nutella fan. I do love the Biscoff. Have you ever had Biscoff cookies?
（でも私はヌテラがあまり好きではなく、ビスコフが大好きです。ビスコフのクッキーを食べたことはありますか？）

【Jun】No, what is that?
（いいえ、それは何ですか？）

【店員】The cookies? The cookies are like famous staple, but this is cookie butter. Basically, somebody had the idea of making cookies into until like a peanut butter paste. 
（ビスコフのクッキーですよ？ビスコフクッキーは有名で定番商品ですが、これはクッキーバターです。誰かがクッキーをピーナツバーみたいにしようと思いついたんでしょうね）

【Jun】That sounds pretty damn good. You know what? I am taking that…
（すごく美味しそうですね。それじゃあ…）

【店員】Would you like to taste it?
（味見してみますか？）

【Jun】Oh, man, are you serious? Oh, man, you get a spoonful of it?
（いいんですか？スプーン一杯も味見させてもらえるんですか？）

【店員】I’ll start you off like that.
（とりあえずこのくらいで試してみてください）

【Jun】Wow, that is really good, man.
（うわぁー、すごく美味しいです）

【店員】Yeah, it’s very, very healthy.
（しかもとても体にいいんですよ）

【Jun】Is it healthy too? I’m taking one of these, too.
（体にもいいんですか？では、これもいただきます）

【店員】Okay. What kind of fruit would you like on it? Bananas, raspberries, strawberries.
（ワッフルの上にのせるフルーツはどれにしますか？バナナ、ラズベリー、苺からお選びください）

【Jun】Bananas… That works. Banana is good.
（バナナと…バナナだけで結構です）

【店員】The total comes out to $21.77.
（お会計は$21.77です）

【Jun】There you go, sir.
（カードでお願いします）

【店員】You need the beverage besides that one.
（お手持ちのビールとは別にお飲み物はいかがですか？）

【Jun】You know what? The beer is good for now.
（とりあえず大丈夫です）

【店員】Thank you. It’s time for another one. Almost there. And you need a text or email receipt?
（少々お待ちください。メールで受け取れる領収書は必要ですか？）

【Jun】No, thank you.
（結構です）

【店員】We’re gonna get working on that for you right now. When that buzzer goes off, it’ll be ready, boss.
（今お作りすので少々お待ちください。そのブザーが鳴ったら取りに来てください）

【Jun】Thank you, boss.
（ありがとうございます）

【店員】Enjoy. Have a beautiful day.
（良い一日をお過ごしください）

【Jun】Thank you.
（ありがとうございます）

食後の感想

チキン＆ワッフルを食べてみましたが、やはり別々に食べたほうが美味しいと思います。店員さんおススメの甘いワッフルには、ビスコフのクッキーバターとバナナ、生クリームがのっていますが、とても不思議な味です。アメリカのスイーツと言えばとても甘いイメージがありますが、このスイーツは日本人の口に合うと思います。ワッフルの外側はカリカリ、中はふわふわしていて、結構イケます！
