【Kelly】And then other things—like I followed creators who—there’s this one female astronaut that’s going to space. And I didn’t even know she existed…

【Kara】Yeah.

【Kelly】…because I try not to watch…because it’s a little bit crazy. And she had gotten pregnant and then had a miscarriage. And then went on this all-female—like, ten of these astronauts went to space. And then she did this talk.

【Kelly】And I mean, you’re sort of following this incredible person that I never would have known was out there and sort of sharing their story. And sometimes it can get a little bit personal. I think people nowadays maybe don’t understand, like not everything should be shared online.

【Kara】Mm hm.

【Kelly】But you do really feel, like a sense of community. You feel a sense of, kind of, sharing in people’s accomplishments.

【Kara】Yeah.

【Kelly】So I really like that. And I also follow a lot of cats, a lot of dogs, a lot of cute animal accounts. You know.

【Kara】The animal-to-people ratio…absurd.

【Kelly】Yeah. (laughs)

【Kara】There’s so many more animals than humans on my phone.

【Kelly】I feel like the animals have more followers and more views than the people most of the time, right? Like, I think they’re more successful at this short video thing than the people are.

【Kara】Yes, like I am so—recently…I don’t know if this is well-known. There’s a crab on TikTok.

【Kelly】A crab? A hermit crab?

【Kara】No, she’s a regular crab. Her name is Howie. She recently passed away.

【Kelly】Aw…

【Kara】I cried! It’s a crab! I don’t know this crab. I’ve never even…I don’t even think I would like it if I saw it. But I was so invested for years on these silly little videos her mom would post. And I didn’t realize how much of my day—or, like how I needed, like a silly Howie the Crab video to get through the day. (laughs)

【Kelly】Do you remember Grumpy Cat?

【Kara】I don’t know…

【Kelly】Grumpy Cat was, like right at the beginning of the Instagram and the Reels. And I followed that cat. She—she had, like a movie made about her…yeah! There’s—I personally think I like the animal celebrities more than the human celebrities most times.

【Kara】Most times, I would say.

【Kelly】(laughs)
