【Jun】So Ruka and Maika definitely are different in many ways, right? And a lot of people always told us that when you have your second child, they’re going to be completely different. And when you look at Ruka and Micha personality wise, very different. And even like their demeanor and the way they express themselves, very different. But one thing that I think we both noticed is that they’re very different when it comes to eating.
【Akina】Oh, yeah. For sure.
【Jun】How would you describe the type of eaters Ruka and Maika are?
【Akina】Ah, Ruka is definitely pickier, and he eats a lot more of the things that he is actually willing.
【Jun】I think that’s an understatement. Not a lot more.
【Akina】He has just like, no self-control.
【Jun】You have to like, cut him off,
【Akina】Yeah.
【Jun】Because if you don’t cut him off, he will literally keep eating. He’s always asking for more.
【Akina】Yeah. On the other hand, Maika is like, more, I feel like, he’s just more regular. Like, he just eats pasta with pesto, which is more like an adult flavor.
【Jun】He loves pesto.
【Akina】And he likes meat. But he doesn’t like sweets. He doesn’t like cake. So I guess he’s healthier.
【Jun】But he likes salty.
【Akina】Oh, yeah. He likes salty. Chips, crackers.
【Jun】So he’s definitely more on the salty side. Ruka loves sugar. He loves carbs like sweet bread, you know, like, his thing. He’s always asking for a snack. You know, when I look at Maika, for him, like, he eats, but then it’s more about eating and playing at the same time. He’s more about, like, eating and like, playing with his food, but Ruka, when he eats,
【Akina】Like, if he likes it, he just keeps eating it. Every time he finishes dinner, he always says, “Something else?”
【Jun】”Something else?”
【Akina】And then, we are like, “But you already ate, like your dinner, and then you ate a yogurt, and you got fruit snacks. And now you want something else?” We’re like, “What else could you eat?” And then we do that thing where, like, if we don’t want him to eat too much, but we don’t want him to get mad. We just like, eat half of a cookie. So that he doesn’t eat the whole thing.
【Jun】Exactly.
【Akina】We’re just, like, constantly, like sacrificing ourselves in eating.
【Jun】That was a funny moment, because I remember, like, you told me about right? Like, so after, like his dinner, he always wants something else, like, “dada, something else.” So we’ll go to the pantry and then whether it’s like, you know, some kind of, like, gummy snack or some kind of cookie or whatever it is…You don’t want him to eat the whole thing. So I remember, like, one day you’re like, yeah, you know, sometimes I open up the package and like, eat half of it, so he doesn’t eat the whole thing. I’m like, “What? I do the same thing. You do that too?” So I guess, like, you know, when you’re parents, you’re kind of like thinking about the same thing because you don’t want him to eat the entire bag.
【Akina】That’s just too much.
【Jun】That’s too much. Yeah, I know, but you know, Maika, on the other hand, it’s funny because, like, he eats, like a variety of things. He doesn’t really have things that he doesn’t like. Maybe a couple things here and there, but like, compare to Ruka, he’s not as picky and like, he eats natto.
【Akina】Oh, yeah.
【Jun】And that was amazing. I remember, like, you know, people in Japan were telling me that, you know, give your kids natto at a young age so that they like it. Like Ruka was, like, not…He really didn’t want natto at all. But Maika, as soon as you gave to him, he was like, all in.
【Akina】He really likes natto.
【Jun】He loved natto. But I think the good thing about both of them recently is Ruka started eating rice.
【Akina】Oh, yeah. Finally.
【Jun】Finally he’s started eating rice. Huge step. Because until then, pasta and bread. That’s it, right? So now he finally eats rice, and, like, they’re, one of their favorite meals is like, making onigiri, which has been nice.
