いつも我が家に郵便物を届けてくれるフレンドリーな郵便屋さんとのやり取りを少しご紹介します。今回は、子育てについて語り合ってみました。

郵便屋さんとの雑談

【Jun】But it definitely makes it easier when you have them go to school earlier, that transition has to be easier, right?
（でも早い段階から学校に通わせると、スムーズに学校生活に馴染めますよね）

【郵便屋さん】Yeah, definitely. Ease them off a lot. What helps me out is that the my baby’s mama is, she works at a preschool. So the two youngest went there. So they started when they were babies all the way to they were four years old.
（間違いないですね。子供たちも気が楽でしょう。助けになったのは、私の子供たちの母親が幼稚園で働いていたことでした。だから、下の2人の子供は、その幼稚園に通っていたんです。生まれて間もなく幼稚園に入って、4歳まで行きました）

【Jun】Gotcha.
（なるほど）

【郵便屋さん】So they did the whole schooling when they were young.
（なので本当に幼い時から学校生活を経験しました）

【Jun】Oh, wow, man.
（すごいですね）

【郵便屋さん】So now they are in school now. Regular school.
（今は本格的な学校生活を送っています）

【Jun】But they went to school before school, kind of unofficially, right?
（本格的な学校の前に特別な学校を経験したんですね）

【郵便屋さん】Yeah. You have to pay 500 bucks.
（そうです。500ドルもかかります。）

【Jun】Man. Childcare is out of control these days.
（うわー。教育費の高騰が止まりませんね）

【郵便屋さん】You already know. Now, I feel my pocket more fuller, you know?, you know.
（ホントにそうですよ。今はお金をもっと持っているように感じます）

【Jun】Exactly.
（そうですね）

【郵便屋さん】Before I was like, where is it going?
（昔は「お金はどこに消えてってるんだろう？」って思ってました）

【Jun】Yeah.
（そうですね）

【郵便屋さん】Daycare, preschool, whatever.
（保育園や幼稚園やその他もろもろですよ）

【Jun】But as they get older, you got the public schools. I mean, you got the extracurricular activities that you got to deal with, but still compare to like…
（もう少し大きくなれば公立の学校があります。そこでもいろいろな活動費がかかってきますね。今よりは安く済むかもしれませんが）

【郵便屋さん】Yeah. So now it’s going to be soccer.
（そうですね。今はサッカーですよ）

【Jun】Soccer.
（サッカーですね）

【郵便屋さん】Yeah.
（はい）

【Jun】I heard it’s like a whole different ball game, man. Once you kind of get to like the older kids, the weekends are just like all tied up with activities.
（幼児の面倒を見るのとは大変さが全然違うみたいですね。高学年になると週末は全て習い事に時間を割くようですね）

【郵便屋さん】When I was younger with no kids, I coached my nephews. Baseball and football.
（まだ子供がいなかった時、甥っ子の野球とサッカー、ポップワーナーリーグのコーチをしていました。）

【Jun】Yeah.
（はい）

【郵便屋さん】So like, for ten years, I coached back and forth the oldest and youngest. And every weekend was something.
（10年間、大きな子供から小さな子供までコーチをしていて、毎週末大変でした）

【Jun】Yeah.
（ええ）

【郵便屋さん】So there was no time off, no season off. So I was always busy.
（休みもシーズンオフもありませんでした。いつも大忙しでした）

【Jun】That just like carried on then as you had kids. Now it’s your kids instead of other kids.
（そのままご自身のお子さんに続いていくんですね。今度はご自身のお子さんが相手ですね）

【郵便屋さん】Yeah, that happens, bud. Hey, good seeing you.
（その通りです。お会いできてよかったです）

【Jun】Hey man, good seeing you, man. You have a good one.
（こちらこそ。良い一日を！）
