【Jun】All right, Dad. So the other day, me and Yoko, we were talking about names for the baby’s coming up, and Yoko wants to name her little girl that has a Japanese name, but a Japanese name that American people can also pronounce.
（さて、お父さん、この間、陽子と生まれてくる赤ちゃんの名前について話していたんだけど、陽子は娘の名前をアメリカ人でも発音できる日本名にしたいんだって）

【Dad】Okay.
（オッケー）

【Jun】So I thought the best person to ask whether American people could pronounce it or not was you.
（そこで、この質問に答えられる適任者はお父さんしかいないと思ったんだ）

【Dad】Oh, geez.
（まいったなぁ）

【Jun】So I got a couple here from Yoko that she’s thinking about. I’m going to give you the card, and I want you to read off the name the way you would read it.
（ここに陽子から預かってきた名前の候補が書かれたカードがあるから、カードを渡すね。書かれている名前を、お父さんなりの読み方で読み上げてくれるかな？）

【Dad】Okay.
（了解）

【Jun】So here is the first one.
（まず最初はこれ）

【Dad】…Hi, Kari!
（ハイ、カリー！）

【Jun】So I got to let Yoko know,
（これは陽子に…）

【Dad】Okay, so if you would go with that name, first of all, everybody would just call her Carrie.
（オッケー、もしこの名前にするなら、まず第一に、アメリカ人はケリーと呼ぶと思うよ）

【Jun】Okay, so Carrie might be the name. Hikari. Can you say Hikari?
（そうなんだ。ヒカリだよ。ヒカリって言える？）

【Dad】I can’t. So what I know is if soon, because she lives in America, everybody is just going to get rid of that HI, and it’ll just be Carrie, because Carrie is a very popular name in America.
（言えない。現段階で言えるのは、アメリカでこの名前を使ったら、みんなは名前からHとIを抜いてケリーと発音してしまうと思うよ。ケリーって名前はアメリカでは人気だからね）

【Jun】That’s true. Okay. So Carrie.
（そうだね。分かった。ケリーね）

【Dad】Or Karaoke.
（それかカラオケとも読めるかな）

【Jun】All right, how about, how about this one right here? How would you read that?
（じゃあ次の名前に行こう。これは何て読むと思う？）

【Dad】Ka-None.
（カーノン）

【Jun】You want to say that again?
（もう1回言ってみて）

【Dad】Ka-None.

【Jun】Oh, man. I thought you might say, like, Cannon or something like that, but you’re actually pretty close. Is that tough for American people?
（お父さんならキャノンとか言いそうだと思ったけど、実際今の発音はかなり近いよ。アメリカ人には発音が難しいかな？）

【Dad】Forget it.
（やめとけ）

【Jun】Forget it. That’s not gonna work. Scratch that. That ain’t going to work. How about this one last one?
（やめとけ。ダメか…これはナシ。アメリカ人には難しいみたい。最後のこれは？）

【Dad】Mary.
（マリー）

【Jun】Oh, Mary? You’re not even reading the word. You’re skipping the first two words here.
（マリー？全部読んですらいないじゃん！最初の文字を飛ばしてるよ）

【Dad】Hey, Mary.
（ヘイ、マリー！）

【Jun】So I don’t think this is going to work either. So it’s Himari.
（この名前もダメそうだね。これはヒマリって読むんだよ。）

【Dad】Himari.
（ヒマリ）

【Jun】Oh, there you go! See you can do it if you tried.
（発音できるじゃん！）

【Dad】But nobody else would do it.
（でも僕以外の人は出来ないよ）

【Jun】So this one would be like the other one, like Hikari. This one would be like, Mary.
（この名前は最初に出てきたヒカリに似ているよね。最後がマリーに変わってる）

【Dad】Nobody’s going to do it.
（誰にも読めないと思うぞ）

【Jun】So of the three, if you had to pick, Kanon, Hikari, and Himari, which one would you go with?
（じゃあ、これまでの3つの名前[カノン、ヒカリ、ヒマリ]から選ぶとしたら、どの名前がいいと思う？）

【Dad】Ozzy Osbourne.
（オジー・オズボーン）

【Jun】Well, there you go Yoko.
（陽子、結果はこんな感じだったよ）

【Dad】We’ll call her Ozzy.
（赤ちゃんはオジーって呼ぶよ）

【Jun】Ozzy. That’s going to be the name of your kid.
