【Adam】Okay, Cody. You’re a…you’re young and fine, right? So you’ve got some choices in your life. You’ve already established yourself but you’re still at an age, uh in life where you’re building yourself up. I believe we continuously do that throughout life. But here’s my question to you.

【Cody】Yes.

【Adam】In your decision making and choices for your future, are you going to choose a path that, uh…a work-related or career-related path that will…that you are passionate about, or something that’s gonna (going to) make a lot of money? Please, please explain.

【Cody】I want to go with a career that aligns with my morals and also my definition of happiness.

【Adam】Mm hm.

【Cody】And of course, money is important. It opens up gateways for you. But, for example, I couldn’t see myself doing any kind of controversial work…

【Adam】Okay.

【Cody】…that left me with any feelings of doubt. A handful of money at the end of the day, but a heart full of doubt. I wouldn’t want that. So whatever it is, it needs to have a little bit of passion behind it. It needs to make you smile and kind of feel good.

【Adam】Mm hm. Mm hm.

【Cody】And at the same time, money is important, but it’s not everything in my book.

【Adam】Yeah, money is not everything. Although it is something.

【Cody】It’s something.

【Adam】And especially as we grow and we build relationships, or, you know, we have wives and children…

【Cody】Right.

【Adam】…now all of a sudden, our priorities change. It’s not just about us anymore, and money is what allows us to support our families…

【Cody】Yes.

【Adam】…and to make sure our families are comfortable…

【Cody】Yeah.

【Adam】…and secure our children’s education, and these are things that we don’t necessary—necessarily think about at an earlier age, but become important to us as we progress in life.

1) Establish oneself (as) _____（～の地位を確立する・築く）

◎“Established oneself as”の後に、確立した地位が入ります。

2) Align with _____. （〜と一致する・同調する）

“Align”は、何かを一直線に並べるという意味の単語ですが、日常会話では“Align with” で、何かが自分の考えや趣味と一致していることを意味します。例えば、今日の会話でコディが言った「I want a career that aligns with my morals.」は、彼が自分のモラルと合致するキャリアを求めていることを表します。

3) At the end of the day（最終的には / 結局は）

“At the end of the day”を直訳すると「1日の終わり」になりますが、会話の中では「結局のところ」や「最終的には」などの意味としてもよく使われます。この表現は、重要なことを話す際に前置きとして使われることが多く、あらゆることを考量した上で結論となる考えを示すニュアンスが含まれます。

4) In my book（私の考えでは / 私にしてみれば）
