【Josephine】I have Instagram.

【Josephine】Yeah I don’t…Facebook and Instagram I don’t put my real names. Well the first name on Facebook, yes. The last name is totally made up. Well actually it’s a combination of all my nicknames because I have like a vagillion nicknames. Yeah Instagram I put it to post my artwork.

【Steve】Ok.

【Josephine】Like anything I make, paint, draw, take pictures…

【Steve】Huh. Very interesting.

【Josephine】That’s pretty new. Instagram is pretty new for me…

【Steve】Ok.

【Josephine】To like create the account, you know. So…　

【Steve】Um is Instagram just about pictures and videos?

【Josephine】It’s pictures, videos and it’s kinda (kind of) turning into like a way of advertising. Like a lot of like uh designers or companies um malls or stores they kinda (kind of) like advertise their clothes and it’s free so it’s free advertisement. I think it’s a really good idea.

【Steve】Mm.

【Josephine】And Tumblr too you know? My uh previous professor in Cypress College like he told me to do that. Post my artwork, my writing, you know, you never know. Someone sees it and they hire you for that.

【Steve】You’re on Tumblr also?

【Josephine】I went off because I took off all the pictures cuz (because) I wanna (want to) redo it, revamp it you know?

【Steve】So why not just do a website too? Do you have a website?

【Josephine】It costs money. I mean you can make one of those Weebly things but I haven’t had the time.

【Steve】There’s…You know there’s like blogging sites you can do and then you can go through and…they’re free.

【Josephine】Yeah I thought about that. Maybe I’m just lazy.

1) Make something up（でっち上げる・ごまかす・作り話をする）

◎ “Make up”は多くの意味を持つフレーズです。作り話をしたり、言い訳や嘘をついて適当にごまかす場合などで使われます。今日の会話でジョセフィーンさんは「The last name is totally made up」と言って、ソーシャルメディアに使う苗字は適当に作ったことを表現しています。

2) Vagillion（数え切れないほどの）

◎ “Vagillion”は正式な英単語ではなく、「数え切れないほど多い」を意味するスラングです。“Million”は「１００万」、“Billion”は「１０億」を意味しますが、“Vagillion”は当てはまる数字が存在しません。要は“Million”や“Billion”よりはるか多い数字を表します。会話のなかで「沢山」を大げさに表現するときに使われます。

3) Turn into（〜に変わる・〜になる）

◎ “Turn into”は“Become”や“Change”と同じ意味を持ちますが、よりカジュアルな響きがあり、ネイティブが日常会話でよく使うフレーズの一つです。「〜になる」や「〜になってきている」と言いたい場合に使います。

4) You never know（どうなるか分からない）

◎「（結果が）どうなるか分からない」や「やってみないと分からない」と言いたい場合に使える便利なフレーズです。特に「そんなの無理だよ」とか「もうダメだね」と疑っている人や諦めかけている人に対して使われる決まり文句です。

5) Revamp（改良する）

◎ 物事の悪い部分を改善し、以前より良くすることを表します。日本語の「リニューアル」に近い表現で、特に古いものを新しくし、復活させるニュアンスが含まれます。 例えば、10年前に作ったウェブサイトが古く、それを今風にアップデートし改良をするような場合で使われます。
