【Mari】So I heard you’re getting married. Congratulations!
【Alisa】Thank you!
【Mari】How’s that coming along?
【Alisa】Oh it’s so crazy right now. Every…every night I have to make a list of things that I need to do the next day before I forget.
【Mari】Oh.
【Alisa】I keep um little… like um on my notepad, just on my phone.
【Mari】Mm hm.
【Alisa】Uh like before I can go to sleep cuz (because) it drives me crazy. Um today in the mail I got gifts for my bridesmaids. Uh because we’re having a very “Do It Yourself Wedding” so it’s going to be kind of all hands on deck, the day of the wedding and leading up to the wedding. So I really wanted to do something nice for my bridesmaids that are gonna (going to) help me out a lot.
【Mari】Mm hm.
【Alisa】I ordered them some really cute necklaces on Etsy. They’re really just small…a little small medallion that has um their first initial printed on it.
【Mari】Oh cute.
【Alisa】So I got those today and I’m really excited.
【Mari】Oh that’s nice.
【Alisa】Now I regret not ordering one for myself (laugh).
【Mari】(Laugh).
【Alisa】Because they’re so cute.
【Mari】Oh how’s the um like the planning itself since you said it’s hands on. You didn’t use like any planner or anything?
【Alisa】No um it’s…my mom’s kinda (kind of) been a superhero through the whole thing. Um we’re having the wedding in Salt Lake City, which is where my family and I am from. Um and we’re having it at a ski resort up in Salt Lake, like way high up in the mountains.
【Mari】Mm hm.
【Alisa】Uh so I always wanted to have my wedding in the mountains. I always wanted something very like mountainy, camping that kind of rugged feeling. Um so my mom is actually growing flowers for the wedding cuz (because) I really wanted wild flowers. So she’s growing a lot but I’m not sure how many are actually going to turn out, how many will be actually be blooming when it’s August.
【Mari】Right.
【Alisa】I’m not sure…I just can’t count on it so I’m trying…I’m trying to figure out how many to order, how many to…how many we’re gonna (going to) have to make, how many centerpieces.
【Mari】Oh wow.
【Alisa】So that’s kinda (kind of) the biggest planning thing um right now.

1) Come along（順調に進む）
◎ “Come along”は物事が順調に進んでいることや進歩していることを表します。「How is it coming along?」は、会話で進行具合を尋ねるときによく使われる言い方です。進捗状況を聞いたり伝えたりする時に使われるため、このフレーズを使うときは必ず現在進行形“Coming”になります。

2) All hands on deck（みんなの助けが必要）
◎ “All hands on deck”は、悪天候時に船乗りメンバー全員がデッキに出て、各々の役割を果たすことから由来した表現です。日常会話では、全員の手助けが必要であることを意味します。特に、限られた時間でより多くの仕事をこなさなければならないような状況でよく使われます。
◎ “Hands-on”を直訳すると「（実際に）手を触れる」になり、実践的に物事を行なったり、実際に体験することを意味します。
- It’s going to be all hands on deck.（みんなの手助けが必要になります。）
- It was all hands on deck getting ready for party.（パーティーの準備をするためにみんなの協力が必要でした。）
- This seminar provides hands-on learning activities.（このセミナーでは実践学習を体験できます。）
3) Rugged（ゴツゴツした）
◎ “Rugged”は使われる状況で意味が若干異なります。表面の凸凹、生活の苦しさ、訓練の厳しさ、機械の頑丈さなどを意味します。また、 顔つきがいかついことや、厳格な性格などの意味にもなります。
- Be careful. The roads are rugged.（険しい道なので気をつけてください。）
- He is a rugged looking guy.（彼はいかつい顔をしていますね。）
- I went on a rugged hike last month.（先月のハイキングはきつかった。）
4) Turn out（結局〜になる）
◎ 物事が最終的にどうなるか、どうなったかと結果を伝える時に使われる表現です。例えば、朝は曇っていたのに、昼から晴れて結局は良い1日になった場合「It turned out to be a nice day.」と言い、ここには「〜の結果を導く」といったニュアンスが含まれます。
- It turned out to be an awesome trip.（結局、最高な旅行になりました。）
- I hope it turns out to be a successful event.（イベントが成功するといいですね。）
- I’m not sure how it’s going to turn out but let’s give it a try.（結果はどうなるか分かりませんが、とりあえずやってみましょう。）
5) Count on（〜を頼りにする）
◎ 人が力を貸してくれることを期待し、それに頼ることを意味します。また、人に限らず物事を当てにする時にも使われ、“rely on”に置き換えて使える口語的な表現です。
◎ “Count on”の後に、頼りにしている人や物など対象を入れます。
- I’m counting on you.（あなたのことを頼りにしています。）
- You can count on me.（私に任せてください。）
- I’m counting on this book to sell.（この本が売れることを当てにしています。）

こんにちは。”Turn out”と”End up”は基本、同じ意味を持ち「結局〜になる」を意味します。”Turn out”には元々の状態が他の状態に変化するニュアンスが含まれ、”End up”に置き換えて使えない状況がいくつかあります。
